What’s in a Name…?

‘Pip’ is short for Philippa, that’s me. And the ‘sticks’... well, I have lots of them, trekking poles and Nordic walking poles!

Pipsticks Walks was born out of my passion for walking and the great British countryside. For me, walking is so much more than just a walk and I love to share my knowledge and interests so that you too can appreciate the places and landscapes that I treasure. I believe in providing you, as individuals or groups, with a first-class outdoor experience and aim to help you enjoy your precious time outdoors.

Walking

I have enjoyed walking in the UK, Europe and beyond for as long as I can remember! Whether exploring the many local footpaths near my home in the Chilterns and those all over Britain, walking one of our fantastic National Trails or hiking the exhilarating mountain paths in the Italian Dolomites or Julian Alps of Slovenia, I just love it.

As an experienced outdoor professional (Hill & Moorland Leader and Lowland Leader - Mountain Training Awards, and NNAS Tutor) I also have a passion for teaching you the walk planning and navigation skills you need to enjoy a great walk without reliance on a guide book or ‘phone app.

Nordic Walking

I first picked up Nordic walking poles in 2012, inspired to take up something new in the London 2012 Olympic year, and got hooked! For me, Nordic Walking combines fitness, sport and leisure all in the great outdoors – perfect!

As a successful sports coach (hockey fanatic!), I soon became an International Nordic Walking Association Instructor, qualified through British Nordic Walking and an Accredited Nordic Walking UK Instructor.

I am certified by BNW in Nordic Walking for Children and Nordic Walking for Parkinson’s and Related Conditions.

Having some experience of Nordic skiing and snowshoeing I also understand the benefits of Nordic walking to help you prep for your winter holidays.

Keeping Relevant

My qualifications, memberships and insurance are all relevant and up to date for the activities offered, including remote Outdoor First Aid (REC Level 2) and Mental Health First Aid (CACHE Level 2).

When I’m not out walking with clients I like to keep my own skills and knowledge current, and spend time researching and exploring new possibilities in order to keep my walks and activities fresh and interesting.
