Walk Description

Our route takes us over the fields to descend gently through the woods into Stoney Bottom. A track then leads us up to Blounts Court Farm - we will keep a look out for red kites, skylarks and yellowhammers - before we descend again into the woods. The bluebells here are truly spectacular. The delightful woodland path takes us past the 'Valentine Tree' and uphill through Flowercroft Wood to join a track which takes up back to Rotherfield Greys.

For more sumptuous bluebells, and an extra hill, we have the option of taking the path down through Pindars Wood and into Happy Valley, returning up the grassland slope. Note: there are four stiles on this part of the walk.

What will it be like?

  • 3.5 miles / 5.5 km with optional extra mile [4.5 miles / 7km]

  • Approx 2.5 hrs

  • A gentle to moderate pace with ‘Bluebell stops’ along the way

  • Mostly good paths and tracks over fields and through woodland but narrow and uneven in parts and can be muddy

  • Undulating terrain with 2 [or 3] uphill sections – total ascent/descent 236 ft (or 332 ft).

  • Stile free – optional extra mile has 4 stiles

  • No facilities en-route

What do I need?

  • A good, comfortable pair of walking shoes or boots

  • Comfortable outdoor clothing, including waterproofs in case of rain

  • A small rucksack for personal provisions, including snacks and water

  • Don’t forget your camera!
